Crockett Elementary School is located at 2112 Crockett Street within Houston’s First Ward Arts District.  The building was originally constructed in 1912, replaced in 1980 and expanded in 2011.  Since its inception, the school has been known for its Fine Arts accomplishments.  Specialized instruction currently includes orchestra, choir, piano, dance, marimba, mariachi and visual arts.  Crockett students have performed successfully for various local, state and national venues and released three CD’s.  Additionally, students from its visual Arts program have won city, district and national competitions including the Houston Rodeo Art competition and the AAFP sponsored Tar Wars National Conference celebrating youth, creativity and being tobacco free.  Crockett is an HISD Charter School and has been rated “Exemplary” for the past several years.  Current yearly special events include the Winter Holiday Music and Dance Productions, Spring Music and Dance Extravaganza and Fifth Grade Promotion Ceremony.
Crockett is currently applying for the Fine Arts Magnet School designation from HISD.  The magnet program will be a school wide program design that will provide a school choice option for parents interested in an accelerated educational experience which includes high levels of academics and fine arts.  Fine Arts instruction will be expanded to include Theatre Arts/Drama and Band.  Crockett anticipates being able to expand its current enrollment from +/-500 students to over 600.

We encourage you to visit Crockett Elementary and invite you to volunteer your talents.  Please contact Mrs. Chavez-Pinto, principal, or Dr. Dina Rayo-Kirkconnell at 713.802.4780 if you are interested.  We are also providing the link to our on-line petition so that you can show your support for Crockett’s Magnet School proposal.  We will be going before the HISD superintendent and Board in October 2012 for approval and the petition is included as a part of our proposal.  Anyone may sign.
